Divine Rituals Kindle Creative Energy

I’ve always been attracted to rituals and believe they are vital to self-care and creative expansion. Growing up Catholic, then later studying other spiritual beliefs, rituals felt like paths to as well as reunions with my Soul.

Rituals can cleanse, bless, or celebrate a moment, home, or creative adventure. As a writer who experiences creative doubts and droughts, creative rituals help me survive and thrive on the artist’s adventure path.

Sacred rituals help me blaze a path through procrastination, doubt, and resistance. They help align with my heart and follow the divine blueprint God created for my Soul.

Devoting 10-20 minutes daily in nature, prayer, or meditation ushers me to the seat of my soul. Here, aligned with God/Source/Spirit I am shaped and supported to be a writer who believes in miracles, and trusts the divine flow and plan for my life.

So with some inspiration from my Catholic roots, I offer you suggestions for stoking your heart’s creative fire. Weave a few into your daily routines, as creative kindling for your soul. Then, go share your unique light and magic with the world.

Seven Sacraments for Shining Creative Magic

1. Baptism. A new creative idea is a birth of divine magic becoming incarnate in a story, painting, book, quilt, song, necklace, or garden. It’s important to bless and consecrate new creative ideas as they arrive from celestial realm. Light a candle or incense and say your favorite prayer. Dip in the ocean or another body of water, and as you emerge to the surface, imagine your creative idea emerging. You can also use an essential oil water element, like rose water spray to bless your body and workspace.

2. Communion. I love this word. It feels like I’m being received and embraced by BIG love. I’m grateful for my community of family and friends. Entering Mother Nature’s embrace is my favorite space to commune with my soul. Michigan’s crows and chickadees give the most inspiring sermons. And, trees remind me the power transformation of rooting into silence. Being in nature is both a sacrament of divine communion and sacred solitude. When I’m not able to venture into nature, I do this breathing practice to create stillness in my inner nature.

3. Confession. The word “sin” originates from the Greek and Hebrew words meaning “to miss the mark”. The three stress stooges- fear, doubt, and resistance, cause me to miss my mark of opening my journal or sharing my writing. Just admitting I feel fear helps me genuflect at hope. Stepping out of the shame shadows, I stop flogging myself in self-criticism. Self-love, is a sacred act helping my attention bullseye to my heart, where I reunite with divine love. Such absolution invites a creative revolution.

4. Confirmation. Daily prayer and affirmations are sacred portals to merging with faith and becoming the inspirational writer and speaker God created me to be. Each day I need to check in with my heart, and, via affirmations or prayer, confirm I will show up as a writer. Literally, confirm my reservation at my writer’s desk. I do this by keeping encouraging poems, scripture, or notes from loved ones in my writing space.

5. Marriage. This sacrament is about saying “I do” to God’s sacred and wonderful plan for my life. To promise I will write in fear and in doubt, and for richer or poorer, I will share my creative gifts with others, until death do I part. Both in holy order and divine chaos, I commit to being a spiritual writer and speaker. Also I promise to share my stories with the world, as an offering, and not an assignment for myself or others.

6. Holy Orders. It’s vital to trust and follow your intuition and feelings, instead of being swayed and silenced by others’ opinions and criticism. I believe intuition is a form of holy orders, and it arises at the junction of my heart and God’s plan for my life. Prayer is a sacred intersection, where my desires align with divine blueprint for my Soul’s mission.

7. Last Rites. Say adios to mental obstacles causing sudden or slow, cruel death to creativity. Fear, doubt, criticism, judgment, procrastination, perfection, worry, resistance and comparison energetically crucify the creative body. Write down what blocks your creative flow, then burn that paper and place ashes in your garden. Till the earth, and plant flower seeds in that space. This ritual helps resurrect hope, cultivate patience, grow joy, and blossom new creative life.

Dear fellow brave, crazy, heart, creative beings, I hope these tips inspire you to invest time into daily self-care and spiritual growth. And I invite you to put your own creative design on these suggestions. Have fun stoking your creative fire. Then, step into the spotlight of your heart and offer your gifts to the world. We await your brilliant, beautiful light.
